NIRO Annual Meeting, June 9 2022
On June 9, NIRO arranged the third annual meeting for oncologists, radiation biologists, medical physicists, radiation therapists, radiologists and others in our region who are interested in radiotherapy research. NIRO's annual meetings provide an interdisciplinary platform for networking and presentation of research results on all aspects of radiotherapy. This year's program featured the invited speakers Prof. Chis Nutting (Royal Marsden Hospital, UK) and Prof. Udo Gaipl (Erlangen University Hospital, Germany), oral and poster presentations based on submitted abstracts, and time for discussions.

Prof. Udo Gaipl (Erlangen University Hospital, Germany) Topic: “Radiation immunology”
Prof. Dr. Udo S. Gaipl is Head of Translational Radiobiology and Group Leader of Radiation Immunobiology at Universitätsklinikum Erlangen (UKER) at the Department of Radiation Oncology, Erlangen, Germany. His research focuses on immune modulation by tumor cells, radiation-induced stimulators and suppressor of the immune system, combination of radio(chemo)therapy with immunotherapies, and translational clinical studies.

Prof. Chris Nutting (Royal Marsden Hospital, UK) Topic: “Clinical trials in proton therapy”
Prof. Chris Nutting is Professor of Radiotherapy at the Institute of Cancer Research and Consultant Clinical Oncologist at the Royal Marsden Hospital, UK. He is an expert in solid cancer treatment, using state of the art radiotherapy techniques designed to reduce treatment complications and improve cure rates. He is further a world leading oncologist specializing in the management of cancer of the head and neck, thyroid, thorax and other forms.

Cost: Free of charge for HSØ employees and NIRO associates, lunch included. Hotel costs (June 8-9) will be covered by NIRO for attendants from Sykehuset Innlandet, Sørlandet Sykehus and Sykehuset Telemark. Travel expenses can be refunded by NIRO.
