Prof. Karin Haustermans

Karin Haustermans is Professor in Radiation Oncology, specialized in GI and GU oncology, and Medical Director of the Proton Therapy Center (PARTICLE) at the University Hospital Leuven. She runs clinical trials combining molecular targeted agents with radiotherapy, where translational studies are highlighted. She will talk about her activities at the proton center in Leuven, both clinical work and possible plans to address translational aspects.

Prof. Geoff Higgins

(University of Oxford, England)

Geoff Higgins is Associate Professor of Clinical Oncology at Oxford University, and Director of CRUK RadNet Oxford. His research aims to develop treatments that improve the efficacy of radiotherapy, and his team has discovered the hypoxia modulating and radiosensitizing effect of the antimalarial drug atovaquone. He will give us the story of this drug, from the discovery and experimental work to clinical trials incorporating novel functional imaging techniques.
